Italy’s Gambling Revenue Hits Record High Amid Surge in Online Players

Italy’s gambling industry has reached a record high in revenue, driven by a surge in online gambling. The rise in online poker, sports betting, and virtual casino games has outpaced traditional brick-and-mortar casinos, with online platforms now accounting for over 50% of the country’s gambling revenue.

While the growth of the online gambling market is seen as an economic boon, it has raised concerns about gambling addiction and financial losses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when online gaming activity surged. In response, Italy’s gaming regulator, Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM), has introduced stricter advertising guidelines, limiting how online gambling is promoted and ensuring that advertisements do not target minors or vulnerable individuals.

Additionally, the government is investing in resources to help individuals with gambling problems, including online support groups and counseling services. While some operators have raised concerns about the new advertising restrictions, the government maintains that the safety and well-being of players must take priority.
